My Pic of the Day last week featured a hotel in the desert in Abu Dhabi. In fact the hotel is partly Thai-owned. I don't know who by but I have my suspicions. The hotel is spread over a huge area and to get to and from your room you are invited to contact reception to order up a golf buggy to carry you. Two people come to your room in the early evening and offer to turn down your bed. We refused both of these invitations. The food was fantastic, the staff friendly and helpful. However, it was just a little overawing to be welcomed at the main door by a man who was at least 7ft tall.
This week's Pic of the Day will feature wat gates. Below are two examples not included in the daily postings. The first is the gate of a wat in a village in Amphur Phana (Phana District) and the second is Wat Luang, in Phrae. Both of these pictures were taken from inside the wat compound.

Lawrence, the gates are different to most of the ones I have photographed South of Bangkok. By that I mean the design and art work. Interesting-any ideas?

Mike, I suppose that different traditions or tastes in the different regions of Thailand might account for it. But I've tried to show the variety of gate design as far as I can. Some are quite plain but others are clearly meant to capture the attention of passers-by. They caught mine, anyway.
